The Organ Library is a repository of music written or transcribed for the pipe organ, as well as books pertaining to the history of organ music and organ performance. It includes the archives and papers of notable concert organists.

The Library

Organ

The Organ Library is a research library dedicated to preserving the musical heritage of the pipe organ.  It

is located at Boston University, School of Theology, 745 Commonwealth Avenue, Rm. B2, Boston, MA 02215.  Directions and map.  The Library operates under the auspices of the Boston Chapter, American Guild of Organists, in space provided by Boston University.  Music and books do not circulate, but photocopies or scans of out-of-print, no longer copyrighted material will be made upon request.  

The resources of the Organ Library are available to all with an interest in music written for the pipe organ, composers who wrote for the organ, and the careers of concert organists.  Within a few steps of the Organ Library are the music collections of Boston University's Mugar Library and the School of Theology Library.

Hours

The Library is staffed from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Mondays and from 9:30 to 3:30 on Thursdays. A volunteer is often present for several hours on Wednesday.
